FPA150 (WEEK 3) - IDENTIFICATION, LABELLING, AND INVENTORY OF CROPS PLANTS

 WEEK 3 (20 October 2023) 


Assalamualaikum and hello everyone!!! Welcome again to my blog💜. Salam UITM dihatiku! Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Nur 'Ain Syafiqah Binti Mohamad Hirani. I am from Selangor. I studied in Diploma In Planting Industry Management (DPIM) at UITM Melaka Kampus Jasin. By the way, this is a blog about FPA150 Fieldwork II that all DPIM's student will learn during semester 2. Hope that everyone will get some information from my blog and hope you enjoy it !!!

Every Friday in semester 2, all students part 1 until part 3 from Faculty Of Plantation And Agrotechnology need to get together in the field. In this blog, I want to show our time and activity that we have followed :

5:45 a.m. - 6.30 a.m.
  • Subuh prayers

6:30 a.m. - 8.10 a.m.
  • Line up according to their respective classes
  • Warm up
  • Moved to Agrotech 
  • Sing the National Anthem, next is Wawasan Setia Warga UITM and Planters Song followed by prayer.  
  • Planter's talk that delivered by a student representative of part 1
  • All muslims student read surah Al-Kahfi (The first 10 sentences and last 10 sentences)
  • A speech by Dr. Ts Zahid Mohd
  • A briefing by Miss Mariam about identification, labelling and inventory of crops plants also about pruning. 

                                      

 
8:10 a.m. - 9.45 a.m.
  • My class and class A moved to plot cocoa with our lecturer for FPA150 to do pruning activity using hand saw.


9:45 a.m. - 10.20 a.m.
  • Rest                              

10:20 a.m. - 11.00 a.m.

  • We moved to Ladang angkat with class C which is herbal plot (lemongrass).
  • Half of us use a hoe to do circle weeding and some of us use a grass cutter machine.
                           

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. The purpose of plant labelling
- So that we know their names and can then give them the correct care.

2. Information that should be on the label
- Scientific name 
- Common name 
- Plant family 
- Date was planted
- Planter's name
- Make sure the information is easy to see

3. What is pruning ?
- Pruning is the process of of cutting away dead or overgrown branches or stems to promote healthy plant growth.

4. Benefits of pruning plant
- Promotes plant health : Helps remove the dead and dying branches from your plant. This allows the plant to have new growth. It also protects your property and passers by from damages of any kind. When you prune your plants, you keep away pests, which helps promote the plant's health.
