FPA150 (WEEK 4) - PREPARATION OF GROWING MEDIUM

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone!!! Welcome again to my blog💜. Salam UITM dihatiku! My name is Nur 'Ain Syafiqah Binti Mohamad Hirani. I am from Selangor. I studied in Diploma In Planting Industry Management (DPIM) at UITM Melaka Campus Jasin. By the way, this is a blog about FPA150 Fieldwork II that all DPIM's student will learn during semester 2. Hope that everyone will get useful information from my blog and hope you enjoy it !!!

Every Friday in semester 2, all students part 1 until part 3 from Faculty Of Plantation And Agrotechnology need to get together in the field. In this blog, I want to show our time and activity that we have followed :

6:00 a.m. - 6.30 a.m.
  • Subuh prayers
  • Class representative take attendance for our class B
6:30 a.m. - 7.15 a.m.
  • Line up according to their respective classes
  • Morning exercise
  • Read Dua Dhuha and Dua Rabithah (Recitation)
7:15 a.m. - 8.00 a.m.
  • Moved to Agrotech 
  • Sing the National Anthem, next is Wawasan Setia Warga UITM and Planters Song followed by prayer.  
  • Planter's talk that delivered by a student representative of part 3 about climate change.
  • All muslims student read surah Al-Kahfi (The first 10 sentences and last 10 sentences)

                                     
 

 
8:00 a.m. - 10.00 a.m.
  • Class A,B,C,D moved to nursery with our lecturer for FPA150 to do soil mixture for preparation of growing medium. 
  • Doctor Maizatul gave a talk about growing media, criteria used in a soil, ratio that use for soil and teach us about sterilization process.
  • The criteria in a soil is clay, loam and sand. 
  • Ratio for the soil is 3:2:1 which is common soil, organic soil and decomposed organic materials. 
  • The soil will be mixture then put in polybag.





10:00 a.m. - 10.30 a.m.
  • Rest                              

10:30 a.m. - 11.15 a.m.

  • Me and 9 of my female friends visit to greenhouse number 10 to do a cleaning.
  • Dismiss.
                            


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

1. What is soil mixture?
- Soil mix is a growth substrate that influences the development of plants, their root extension and correct nutrient intake to answer their needs. 

2. What is the function of growing media?
- To hold water and nutrients for root uptake, providing adequate root aeration, and ensuring structural support to the plant.
