ABOUT CIRCLE WEEDING
1. What is circle weeding?
- Circle weeding involves removing weeds from around the base of a plant in a circular pattern. It helps the plant to thrive by reducing competition for nutrients, water and sunlight.
- Improved health
- Enhance growth
- Better aesthetic appeal
- Easier maintenance
- Increased yield
MAINTENANCE ON DURIAN TREE
TREE 6
Figure 5 : The durian trees were discovered to have stem canker while the weeds were being removed. This disease mostly affects the base and stem, severely peeling off bark and making it difficult for the plants to absorb nutrients and water.
TREE 7
Figure 8 : We had to notify the plantation unit personnel about a leak in the water distribution pipe.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. What is canker ?
✅Canker is a term used to describe various diseases that can cause necrotic, often sunken areas of damage on stems, twigs, or branches of plants. The term can also be applied to the lesions themselves. These disease can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including fungi, bacteria, and occasionally viruses, and they affect a wide range of plant species.
2. What causes canker ?
✅Cankers in plants are typically caused by a variety of fungal and bacterial pathogens that infect the plant tissue. These pathogens can enter the plant through natural openings, such as stomata, or through wounds from pruning, insects, weather damage, or other mechanical injuries. Once inside the plant, these pathogens colonize that tissue and disrupt nutrient and water flow, leading to the formation of cankers.
2. How to control and prevent cankers ?
✅Cultural Practices: These include regular inspection of plants for early signs of disease, proper sanitation to remove and dispose of inflected material, and avoiding unnecessary wounding of plants. It's also important to maintain overall plant health, as stresses plants are more susceptible to disease.
✅Chemical Treatments: Fungicides or bactericides may be used in some cases to control canker diseases. These are typically applied as a preventative measure or at the first sign of disease. It's important to remember that these treatments will not cure existing cankers but can help prevent the spread of the disease to healthy tissue.
✅Resistant Varieties: where available, planting resistant varieties can be an effective way to manage canker diseases.
